U7 Fundamental Program: The U7 program will hold weekly practices, 60 minutes in duration and consisting of general movement, soccer skills and small-sided games. They will also be introduced to game play and will have games scheduled throughout the 10/8-week blocks. U7 game days will consist of a scheduled match against another WSA U7 team. The philosophy of the U7 program is to support unrestricted play within reasonably modified and applied laws of the game. There are no referees and no official scores, or standings are recorded.

We strive to create a program that develops and encourages new and current players to grow and develop together. In line with the Long-Term Development Program, the most important focus at this stage is to continue to develop all players physical literacy, and we recognize that individual technique development is paramount. Coaches at this stage strive to create a stimulating and engaging learning environment for players to learn in a fun-filled small-sided game environment. The program begins to move into a team format where teams will begin to play against each other.

The program goal is to provide a rewarding, enjoyable soccer-playing experience for all participants, regardless of their skill level. The program follows the GAG model, which is the Game Activity Game.

This program focuses on teaching the fundamental aspects of:

  • sport participation
  • encouraging all young players to master the basic techniques of soccer
  • the development of physical and movement literacy.

Building on the fundamental techniques, our program is designed to;

  • to allow participants to explore with the ball,
  • to engage with the foundational skills such as dribbling, passing, and shooting in a competition free environment

EQUIPMENT:

1) Closed toed shoes

2) Shin pads

3) Water bottle

Training shirt, jersey, shorts and socks will be provided by WSA

GAG Model

The use of the GAG Model - Game Activity Game - allows for a balance of coaching a specific topic within a game, developing that topic in the activity, and allowing the players to implement that in the game for themselves without coaches constantly talking.

The second game is vital to allow players to make mistakes or do something great and so learn for themselves. Coaches will be there to encourage for this game and ensure player rotation.

  • Game Format - 3v3
  • 30 min games
  • Field size - 22m x 30m
  • Ball Size - 3
  • Goal size - Pop up (3ft x 5ft)
